A fragment of ancient woodland on a steep slope beside the A127. It is mainly oak and hornbeam, but at the top are two huge sweet chestnut trees and it also has rowan, hazel and elm. It is surrounded on three sides by woodbanks, traditionally used to mark woodland boundaries. Bluebells, wood anemones and common cow-wheat occur throughout.

Visiting

Access from Western Road, Hollytree Gardens or Weir Farm Road in the estate just north of the Rayleigh Weir roundabout on the A127. From there take the A129 north and turn off first or second left. On-street parking.

Accessible at all times.
